Have you ever wanted to know a little bit more about the people who are learning so much about you? Now you can in our new blog series called “Meet Our Staff.”

First off, we have our Administrative Assistant/Recruiter, Miss Sarah Evans, at our Greenville, NC office.

Tell us about yourself.
I am 26 years old. I grew up on a farm in a small town in Illinois about an hour south of Chicago. In 2011, I moved to eastern North Carolina with my fiancé, for warmer weather and a change of environment. In my spare time, I love to binge-watch Netflix, go hiking, and go camping with my fiancé and our 2-year-old German Shepherd. My main goals in life are to travel the world to learn new cultures and help those in need.

What did you do before working at Roebuck Staffing?
My first job was as a P/T manager at a local ice arena in Illinois. I also coached hockey and figure skating classes and drove the Zamboni. After being there for almost 5 years, I landed a job as an Internet Manager at the largest Chevrolet dealer in the Midwest! Then, I moved to North Carolina where I worked for some small companies building marketing, sales and customer service skills. Now, I’m here at Roebuck Staffing Co.!

What is your favorite…?
Willy Wonka, Marry Poppins, Fast & the Furious, and The Sandlot
Music Genre:
90’s Alternative and Classic Rock (I’m a huge Beatles fan!)
TV Show:
Grey’s Anatomy, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, and Friends
Sport: Ice Hockey- Go Blackhawks!
Green… well, teal to be exact.
Audi R8 or the new Toyota Tundra
Waffles, cookies, hot dogs, and everything else I shouldn’t be eating
Diet Pepsi and Monster Energy Drinks

What do you like most about working at Roebuck Staffing?
It’s great to know I am helping others find jobs. Unfortunately, I get some applicants that are really struggling to keep a roof over their head. So, it’s really great knowing I have helped by getting them back on their feet.

How important is the resume and cover letter in the job application process?
The resume and cover letter are VERY important! I get SO many candidates who do not submit a resume to a job opening that specifically states, “If interested, please reply with a resume.” When a candidate does not reply with a resume: (1) He/she cannot follow simple instructions (2) I do not know their skills nor experience (3) It gives the impression that he/she is lazy and does not want to DO work to HAVE work. A resume and cover letter show that you truly want this position and you are professional.

What do you look for in a candidate?
I normally look for those who are excited to work, have a fun and confident personality, who dress for the position they want and who always smiles.

What tips would you suggest for a candidate to prepare for an interview?
Even if it isn’t with us, research the company you are applying for. It’s always good if you have knowledge of what they do, what you potentially could be doing and it will really impress the interviewer. Also, just be yourself. I know you are nervous, and that’s expected, but I can’t tell you how many times that someone will be acting one way in the interview and then, on their first few days on the job, they are a totally different person. Don’t say you have experience in something, when you really don’t. The employer will always find out. You’ll go so much farther, if you just be yourself.

What resources would you recommend to applicants?
If you have never designed a resume before, is a great starter. It practically creates the resume for you. Also, Google is my best friend! You can search “resume samples” to give you an idea of what a resume should look like, but don’t try to copy/paste false information. You’ll regret it very quickly once the recruiter finds out.

Final thoughts?
Prepare for your interview! Dress the part, arrive 10 minutes early, turn your phone off, smile, and be yourself!
